Clothing Rack

The clothing rack is designed to reduce household energy use. By hang-drying clothing, a household omits the need for a dryer. Hang-drying also helps clothes stay nice for longer. This rack combines the functions of a drying rack and a closet, making it faster and easier to do laundry and put clothes "away."

I designed this rack in The Netherlands, where I was studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven. For the five months I spent there, I packed only one suitcase, including 7 identical black shirts, 2 identical pairs of pants, and a few other clothes and shoes. I used this minimalist wardrobe as a an example of what one's clothing in a low-waste household could be, and thus it helped me create a blueprint for the rack.
